The hardest part of having a facelift is waiting for the face to heal completely. At this point patients may feel as if they can no longer wait for the results and may even feel disappointed that they are not seeing the finished product quickly.
Feelings Immediately After Facelift Surgery
Right after facelift surgery patients may feel minor pain. The facelift surgeon can prescribe a pain medication that will alleviate the discomfort. If there is severe pain after facelift surgery the doctor should be contacted immediately. Some areas on the face will feel a little numb and this is completely normal. The bruising will start to decrease after the first few days of surgery, but there may remain different shades of colors as the bruising is healing. Bruising mostly occurs around the eyes after a facelift procedure, but each client is different and can have bruising in different areas.
Scarring After A Facelift
After having facelift surgery there will be scares. The scares are hidden in the hairline and many patients will not have issues with the scarring after the facelift. Immediately after the procedure the scars are pink but within a few months the scares turn to a white color. In most cases scars are not noticeable at all 6 months after facelift surgery. To minimize the appearance of the scars or shorten the healing time, your facelift surgeon may prescribe additional medication after facelift surgery.
Timeline To Follow After Facelift Procedure
Although the patients want to see changes right away to get the best results they have to follow the timeline after their facelift surgery.
- 12 to 14 days after having facelift surgery the swelling will be completely gone.
- Two weeks of waiting the swelling will go down, but there will still be some bruising. At this point patients are able to conceal the bruising with makeup.
- Three weeks after the facelift procedure the patients will see the dramatic difference in their face.
- One month after facelift surgery majority of the bruising is gone on the patients face.
- There may be a few dry spots on the face but should go away one month after facelift surgery.
- Patients are encourage to limit their exposure to sun after facelift surgery for several months, so the face can heal properly. Exposure to the sun or extreme heath may interfere with the face's natural healing process after a facelift.
